In a joint breakthrough, the Phoolbagan police in Kolkata arrested three murder accused from Rajasthan who had been hiding in the city for several days. The accused — identified as Ganpat Gurjar, Mahesh Gurjar, and Dharmendra Gurjar — are residents of the Kuchaman police station area in Deedwana district and have a murder case registered against them in Rajasthan. Police confirmed that a fourth accused in the same case is still absconding, and a search operation is underway.
The arrests were made after residents of Phoolbagan noticed a group of unfamiliar men loitering around a multi-storey building and behaving suspiciously. When one of them was seen climbing down from the building’s eaves, locals immediately alerted the police. On reaching the spot, the accused tried to flee, leading to a brief scuffle that lasted nearly half an hour before three of them were caught.
During initial questioning, the men tried to mislead officers by providing fake identities, claiming to be labourers and businessmen. However, inconsistencies in their statements led police to verify their backgrounds, eventually revealing their true identities as wanted murder suspects from Rajasthan. “Thanks to the vigilance and promptness of the local people, we were able to apprehend three major criminals,” a senior Kolkata Police officer said.
The arrested trio is currently being held at the Phoolbagan Police Station. Kolkata Police have informed their counterparts in Rajasthan, who are expected to arrive soon to take custody. Investigations are underway to find out how the accused managed to find shelter in Kolkata and whether they had local assistance or a network operating in the city.
